Stairs
-
Steps to simple masonry cottages were often plastered brick, marble or granite without side buttresses.
- Steps to townhouses were often of granite with box side buttresses, also of granite.
- Steps to wooden buildings were wooden. Of special importance are the wood steps with wooden side buttresses found on wooden Victorian shotgun houses.
- Stairs to service buildings are typically wooden. These are especially important and should be maintained on detached service buildings where no original interior stair existed.
- Removing steps from front openings is prohibited.
