– This morning, members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Section have issued an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old teenager in connection with the May 14th hit and run involving 4-year-old Kylin Woods. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., in the 4900 block of Marigny Street.
According to investigators, the suspect was apparently operating a stolen red Chevrolet Camaro erratically, i.e., spinning its tires and maneuvering in an unsafe manner. Third District Officers witnessed his actions and before they could react, the suspect fled on Marigny Street and struck the child who was apparently in the roadway. He abandoned the stolen vehicle in the 5300 block of Painters Street and fled through an empty lot toward Franklin Avenue.
As a result of a continuing investigation, members of the Fatality Section, under the command of Sergeant Donovan Livaccari, developed critical information and evidence to identify the driver responsible for this crime.
Warrant has been issued for the arrest of 17-year-old Matthew Barra, last reported home address was 2462 Odin Street. The Warrant accuses him of Felony Hit & Run, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Negligent Injuring. Possession of stolen property will also be filed.
Barra has most noticeably a June 18, 2004 arrest for Second Degree Murder, a February 25, 2005 arrest for Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and a March 24, 2005 arrest for Aggravated Assault.
