Youth Training Opportunities
YouthROC (Youth Rebuilding Our Community) is a multi-organizational effort that places disadvantaged youth on construction sites and in green jobs throughout the New Orleans area. While our youth are enrolled, we ensure that they receive job-readiness training, educational advancement, counseling, social-skills improvement, and long-term employment.
Our youth receive the added advantage and personal fulfillment of rebuilding Katrina- and Rita-damaged housing in their own communities.
YouthROC is run by a collaboration of entities, dedicated to finding employment for citizens and developing new job pathways for the New Orleans area: Goodwill Industries, JOB1 Business and Career Solutions, and the Workforce Investment Boards of Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Tammany, St. Charles, St. John, St. James, and Jefferson Parishes.
We currently manage and support the community-level efforts of the following top-notch organizations in the metro area: The Hope Center in Jefferson Parish, the St. James Parish Department of Human Resources, the Arc of Greater New Orleans in Jefferson Parish, City of Hope in St. Bernard Parish, and Louisiana Technical College in St. Tammany Parish.
In New Orleans we support: Limitless Vistas, the Recovery School District, the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court, and Catholic Charities.
YouthROC is currently transitioning into its second phase. If you are an out-of-school youth, aged 16 to 24, and if you would like to work and train in one of our great programs, please check this page again in August 2009 for registration information.
