Central Business District HDLC

This eleven (11) member Commission provides the guidance and protection of our historic resources within the four (4) local historic districts, along with thirty-three (33) landmarks and thirty-five(35) nominated landmark structures in the Central Business District (CBD). While protecting these assets, the Commission balances the interests of commercial and residential developers to promote economic development. The Commission has assisted in the conversion of unusable office space into new hotels by making design review proposals compatible with the requirements of the National Park Service for Restoration Tax Credits. These tax advantages apply to all income producing property. Furthermore, the Commission reviews new construction to ensure compatibility within a historic district and reviews buildings that are in Demolition by Neglect conditions to facilitate their repair. Finally, the Commission also has a responsibility to give advice to the City Council and other City agencies upon request.
