MMAC Charter

The charter of the Mayor’s Military Advisory Committee starts with a Statement of Purpose, which is to advise the Mayor and the City Council of New Orleans regarding the following matters:

  1. The dissemination of information regarding the importance of the military to the economy and society of New Orleans and surrounding areas.
  2. Responsiveness to the needs of the military individually and collectively in connection with their presence in the City of New Orleans and surrounding areas to be particularly vigilant of quality of life issues which may affect the members of the military services who live within the City and region, and
  3. As to preparedness in order to counter any attempt to close, remove or transfer any military base from New Orleans or the surrounding area, to gather information from appropriate sources which will allow this Committee, the Mayor and the City Council to prevent said removals and to work with the Louisiana Congressional Delegation in furtherance of securing military bases and ongoing activity by the military in the City of New Orleans and surrounding area.

Note: Realizing that military commanders, indeed, all military members, are obliged to remain completely neutral in all matters related to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), subparagraph 3 above relates only to civilian members of the Mayor’s Military Advisory Committee. In no way is it intended to confer the approval or even the participation of such military members in any matter related to MMAC’s work in the BRAC process.
