BENEFITS
For the military member and his or her family, the benefit is that they will receive well-deserved discounts and/or gratuities from participating businesses in recognition of their faithful service to our great nation as well as for being good neighbors in our wonderful community. For the participating businesses themselves, the main benefit is simply in knowing that they are doing something worthwhile for the very dedicated current and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces here in the New Orleans area. This is particularly appropriate during this time of time of great turmoil in our nation’s history as our troops deploy to defend our freedoms in the War on Terror. In short, it’s a wonderful way of giving something back and saying “thanks for your sacrifice” to our military men and women for their dedicated service. This is so vital to winning this war because their morale, willingness to fight and ability to sustain themselves over the long term depends so much on community support back home.
UPON APPROVAL, you will receive a colorful and patriotic “Proud Supporter, New Orleans Area MILITARY” window sticker for display in a prominent place at your business. You will also receive a letter of appreciation signed by Ray Nagin, Mayor of the City of New Orleans. Lastly, your business will be listed on the GNOSOM web page, which will allow military members to see exactly what businesses are listed as official members of the GNOSOM program. Last, if you choose to do so, you may have a hyperlink after your business name giving potential customers access to your own web site.
GOAL
A minimum of a ten percent discount is the desired goal, but it’s understandable that certain types of businesses may need to offer a lesser discount than 10% due to their more conservative profit margins. In lieu of a percentage discount, a monetary discount (such as “Two for One” or “Second One Half Price”) is certainly also acceptable.
APPLICATION is made on-line by clicking on the GNOSOM Application Form and filling in the required information. Once you submit the form on-line, designated voluntary members of the Mayor’s Military Advisory Committee will review it. You will be notified by return e-mail within ten business days as to whether you’ve been approved for the program. If approved, the window banner and letter of appreciation will be sent to you within another ten business days and, if you so choose, your business will be listed on the GNOSOM web page as a Supporter. Last, if you choose to do so, we can also add a hyperlink on the GNOSOM page to your business’ web site.
