Fight Blight
Take advantage of several new programs designed by the City Attorney’s Housing Law Unit, New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) and the Division of Housing and Neighborhood Development (DHND) to aid citizens in the acquisition and rehabilitation of abandoned and blighted properties throughout New Orleans.

Abandoned & Adjudicated

Abandoned Property is property which has been “adjudicated” or sold to the City for non-payment of taxes. The tax deed has been recorded at least 18 months for sales and 3 years for donations. It is also “vacant or not lawfully occupied,” open to vagrants, inadequately secured or endangering public safety, health or welfare. To find out how to acquire these properties visit the City Attorney's Housing Law Unit.

Blighted Property

Blighted Property must be declared “blighted” by an administrative adjudication hearing officer. Vacant, uninhabitable or hazardous, “public nuisance”, vermin infested or lacking in facilities required by City Code. For more information on acquiring Blighted Properties visit New Orleans Redevelopment Authority.
