- To Pay a Ticket (Plead Guilty)
A. To Pay On-line by Credit Card: Click here Please have your traffic citation available. Only Visa, Master, Discover and American Express cards are accepted.
B. To Pay by Traffic Court’s Telephone Interactive Voice Response System: Call (504) 658-FINE. Please have your traffic citation available and follow the instructions.Only Visa, Master, Discover and American Express cards are accepted.
C. To Pay by Mail: Only money orders are accepted. No cash, personal checks or credit cards can be used for payments by mail. Please make your money order payable to the City of New Orleans.
Please include your ticket number, name, current address and day time telephone number on your money order. You must postmark your letter on or before the appearance date written on the front of your traffic ticket. If your payment is postmarked after that date, you must include an additional $100.00 late fee in order for your case to be completed and changed in status from “open” to “closed.” “Open” cases that are delinquent are subject to additional fines and fees and the motorist’s driver’s license is subject to immediate suspension. Also, arrest attachments can be issued for motorists with “open” cases that are delinquent.

Note: If your driver’s license was confiscated, it will be mailed to you after full payment for your traffic citation, including late fees, has been received by Traffic Court.
D. To Pay in Person: Payment can be made at Traffic Court’s Broad Street office or at Traffic Court’s Algiers office. The Broad Street address and hours of operation are:
New Orleans Traffic Court Room 107 727 South Broad Street New Orleans, Louisiana 70119 Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except City Holidays
The Algiers address and hours of operation are: The Old Algiers Courthouse 225 Morgan Street New Orleans, Louisiana 70114 Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except City Holidays. Visa, Master, Discover and American Express cards are accepted at both locations. Also, cash and money orders are accepted.
If you pay by money order you can avoid the payment line for Room 107 by dropping off your money order in Room 108. If you choose this option, please print your name, address, daytime telephone number and ticket number on the money order. After your money order payment is processed, a receipt will be mailed to you. Please allow several days for processing and mail delivery.
Note: If your driver’s license was confiscated, it will be mailed to you after full payment for your traffic citation, including late fees, has been received by Traffic Court.
E. To Pay by Western Union: Traffic Court has a Western Union terminal to accept payment of fines and fees. Once you have determined the balance due on your traffic citation, you can make payment to Traffic Court at the nearest Western Union office. The payment must be sent to New Orleans Traffic Court at Western Union’s code number NOLA. The account number must be the same number as your ticket number. The Western Union office will charge a fee for this service.
- To Contest a Ticket, (Plead Not Guilty)
In order to contest a ticket, you must request a trial date. To avoid late fees, you must request your trial date on or before your first appearance date (the date written by the police officer on the front of your traffic citation).
You may request a trial date: A. In Person (To Request a Trial Date) Please come to Traffic Court’s Broad Street office or Algiers office. Please see the information above for addresses and hours of operation. If you request a trial date after you first appearance date, you must pay a late fee of $100.00 before the trial date will be issued to you.
Traffic Court will request that you fill-out a Contact Information Sheet prior to setting a trial date for you. This information is required so that you can be kept up to date by mail or by telephone with the progress of your case. When you request a trial date, please provide Traffic Court with updated address, telephone numbers and other contact information requested on the Contact Information Sheet.
B. Over the Internet, On This Website (To Request a Trial Date) To set a trial date on this website, you must provide Traffic Court with three alternative dates and times that will fit into your schedule. The daily court times are 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and you must select the time that is best for you. The dates must be at least two weeks and no more that four weeks into the future from today’s date.
In addition to providing the best dates and times for your trial, you must give Traffic Court the following additional information:
- Your traffic ticket number
- The date of your violation
- Your first and last name
- Your complete address, including apartment number, if appropriate
- A daytime telephone number where you can be reached
- A nightime telephone number where you can be reached
You will be allowed to set a trial date over the Internet only if you make your request on or before your first appearance date. If your first appearance date has passed, you must obtain a trial date in person or by mail, and you will be required to pay a $100.00 late fee prior to receiving the trial date. See the subsections on Setting a Trial Date In Person or By Mail for details.

By Telephone (Requesting a Trial Date) Please call Traffic Court’s telephone Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System at (504) 658-3463 and follow the instructions for setting a trial date. If you call after your first appearance date, you will not be allowed to set a trial date by telephone. See the sub sections on Setting a Trial Date In Person or By Mail for details.
If you call on or before your first appearance date, you will be given several choices for trial dates. After you select one of the alternative dates, it will be repeated for you so that you can write it down and record it in your activity calendar. Please write down the trial date, trial court division and trial time you select because you will be expected to appear at Traffic Court for your trial at that date and time. If you fail to appear for your trial, additional fines and fees will be added to your case, and an arrest attachment may be issued for you.
You will be mailed a Notice of Trial to the address written on your driver’s license. However, Traffic Court is not responsible for misdirected Notices of Trial due to incorrect information provided on a driver’s license or misdirected mail. Therefore, it is important for you to write down the date, time and location of your trial.
D. By Mail (Requesting a Trial Date) You may request a trial date by mail. Traffic Court’s address is:

- Procedure If You Were Arrested
If your were arrested, you must report to the Division of Court on the date and time written at the bottom of your traffic citation. If you fail to appear at the designated Division of Court, date and time, your bail bond will be forfeited and an Arrest Attachment will be issued for you.
