New Orleans Traffic Court at the Old Algiers Courthouse

Algiers CourthouseDue to damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Traffic Court is open for business Monday through Friday at the Old Algiers Courthouse, located on the West Bank at 225 Morgan Street, across from the river levee one block from the Canal Street Ferry.

Citizens can pay traffic tickets or schedule court dates for Traffic Court between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Traffic Court policy mandates that any and all fines must be paid with cash, money orders, cashier's checks. Please note that credit cards and personal checks cannot be accepted.

Trials held in Traffic Court Division A and Division B are scheduled Monday-Friday at 8:00 a.m. Trials in Division C and Division D are scheduled Monday - Friday at 12:00 noon.

Traffic Court also holds hearings in the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office House of Detention, 2nd Floor, 2735 Perdido Street, New Orleans for persons who are incarcerated. Hours are Monday - Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

DO NOT attempt to pay any ticket or fine through any automated telephone services including the 658- FINE number. The system which records and processes these transactions has been destroyed by the hurricane and your transaction WILL NOT be processed. The only way to clear your record is to pay online on the City of New Orleans's website or send payment or appear in person at the Traffic Court's temporary location at the Old Algiers Courthouse.

Can I pay online or at the city's website?

Yes, you can pay online on the City of New Orleans website. Do not pay online through any other payment center or by the automated phone system because your transaction will NOT be recorded. Traffic Court accepts Cash, Cashier's Checks and Money Orders only. DO NOT send cash through the mail. We will post back here when the online payments are available again.

How do I get my license reinstated?

You must bring or mail a $100 "Contempt Fee" to receive a Trial Date and a Reinstatement Letter to take to the DMV. With your payment include your Name, Date of Birth, SSN, Ticket #, Address at time ticket was issued, Current Address & Phone, and your Driver's License #.

Appear at the Section (A, B, C, or D) to which you were assigned at Algiers Courthouse to adjudicate the matter.

I have a speeding ticket. Where do I go?

Mail in your fine or appear at the Algiers Courthouse.
