Monday, October 12, 2009, at 2:28 pm. the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a person trapped in a Concrete mixer at a construction site at S. Dorgenois and Erato St. When Firefighters arrived they found a 19 year old male conscious and alert with his right arm entangled in a portable concrete mixer. Stabilization of the victim began immediately by EMS & NOFD. NOFD Flying Squad trained in Heavy Rescue began the tedious task of cutting away 1 inch rods which had pulled the worker’s upper body into the concrete mixer. Disentanglement from the mixer was accomplished after 1 hour of cutting and prying away all the rods with the use of the Jaws of Life, Sawzall and various Pry bars and cribbing.
