One Alarm Fire at McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School

The New Orleans Fire Department was dispatched to a one alarm fire at McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School 1331 Kerlerec Street. Once on the scene they found an extinguished fire that originated in and was contained to a trash receptacle in the first floor boys’ bathroom. The fire was extinguished by a student using a fire extinguisher. This fire is under investigation.

NOFD Task Force is working closely with Recovery School District, State Fire Marshall, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and New Orleans Police Department to address the current trend of numerous fires set in schools. During the mitigating process the NOFD is focused on fire education and safety awareness. With increased supervision and awareness we hope to see a decrease in school fires. With this decrease we anticipate safer schools for students and faculty.
