The Training Division is responsible for the Recruit Training Program, the In-Service Training Program both for firefighting and medical response. The Training Division operates with a Director of Training, seven Fire Education Officers, an SCBA Technician/Operator and an Information Processor.
The facility is composed of a 6 Story Training Tower, a Classroom Building and a Fire Station used for Recruit and In-Service Training. A split-level burn building and Hazardous Materials response pad are also available.
The New Orleans Fire Department Recruit Training Program is a 16-week program designed to qualify recruits for becoming Probationary Firefighters. The training is composed of physical fitness, classroom and field firefighter training and First Responder Medical Training. During the 4-month program recruits are tested to become Nationally Certified Fire Fighters through Louisiana State University.
The New Orleans Fire Department Training Division officers also serve as Incident Safety Officers during Second Alarm Fires or greater.
