Chief Holmes manages the Suppression Division.

 The Fire Suppression Division comprises the largest departmental division. It is charged with responding to alarms of fire, performing suppression functions, including life safety and property conservation, and assuring complete extinguishment.
Fire Suppression members regularly participate in daily inspections, fire safety educational programs and numerous other fire-related duties.
Fire Suppression also manages Hazardous Materials emergency responses and medical first responder program.
City of New Orleans has a fire insurance rating of Class II. The ratings are conducted by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (P.I.A.L.). Lower rating typically results in the lowering of most commercial insurance premiums and some residential premiums.
