The Public Records Section consists of the Corporate and Non-Corporate Units. The section fills requests for Letters of Good Conduct, Background Checks/ Criminal History Checks, and releasable Police/Accident Reports forms. To request any of the above, you can click on the link, complete the form, and mail to Police Headquarters, 715 South Broad St., New Orleans, LA 70119 Attention: Record Room
If you wish to request any of the above in person, you may go to Police Headquarters Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am – 1:00pm. We do not accept requests via email or fax.
Note: All requests are processed in the order received. Please allow up to 20 business days to receive the requested records. Staffing shortages and other circumstances or research requirements may delay a response

Public Records Request
Upon Receipt of Your Request
Upon receipt of your request, the Custodian of Record will first need to ascertain whether the records you request are in the possession of the New Orleans Police Department. If we are unable to locate the record immediately, we may need to contact other divisions, units, or personnel within the New Orleans Police Department. In addition we may need to contact other agencies, such as Harbor Police, Levee Board Police, or State Police, etc. We only fill requests for incidents that occurred in Orleans Parish.You will be notified if some or all of the requested documents are not in our possession.
Required Information
If your request is vague or incomplete, a representative of the New Orleans Police Department may contact you in an effort to acquire additional information or clarification.
Records Subject to Redaction or Not Releasable
Article 1, Section 5 of the Louisiana Constitution establishes an individual right of privacy in Louisiana. Information in public record should probably not be disclosed if it contains facts which would expose an individual to public disgrace or would intrude upon the individual’s seclusion.
The following information will NOT be disclosed pursuant to a public records request.
- Employee medical records
- Social Security Numbers of anyone
- Name, address or identity of victims of sex offenses or minor victims of any crime
- Rap Sheets
- Identify of undercover officer, confidential informer
- Information which would reveal undercover or intelligence operations
- Juvenile Court records
- Work Product
- Grievance records of public employees
- Job performance of public employees
- Records of misdemeanors that have been “expunged”
- Records of Law Enforcement agencies pertaining to pending criminal investigations and prosecution.
