Crime Analysis Section
analyzes crime patterns to provide patrol and investigative officers with the information necessary to identify criminal offenders through the production of weekly and monthly crime trend booklets.  The booklets include computer generated maps identifying crime hot spots and trends.  This section also coordinates the statistical research and visual presentation for scheduled crime related meetings, in which the commanders of the eight field patrol districts are responsible for discussing the methods utilized to address the crime trends in their districts.

Mobile Data Section coordinates the installation and support of portable laptop computers installed in police vehicles.  The mobile data terminal provides field access to department and State data bases, including stolen vehicles, vehicle registrations, criminal histories and warrants.  The terminal also connects the field units with the computer aided dispatch system improving management of resources and calls for service response.

Data Entry Section is responsible for data entry of all reports written by law enforcement agencies in Orleans Parish using New Orleans Police Department item numbers into the main frame system.  The entering of these reports is used to generate data in the classification of crime statistics.  This section is also responsible for:

  • Entering of traffic accident reports as required by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development
  • Inputing categorical, statistical and demographic data from police incident reports into computerized files and records
  • Processing incoming requests from the department and outside agencies pertaining to the statistical data contained within the department’s and MIS’s computer systems relating to Uniform Crime Report information
  • Research and development of evolving systems and the release of data necessary for the compilation of the Uniform Crime Report, reported to the F.B.I. and the State of Louisiana, published on a quarterly basis.
