You need to be a resident of Orleans Parish, a United States citizen and have a signature ID.

The Registrar of Voters has two locations. City Hall, 1300 Perdido Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112, Room
1W24 and Algiers Court House 225 Morgan Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70114, Room 105. Visit
the Secretary of States website at http://www.sos.louisiana.gov for designated mandated sites. Or at
the Department Motor Vehicle.
3. What is the Registrar of Voters hours of operation?
The Registrar of Voters Office located in City Hall hours of operations are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until
4:30 PM. The satellite office located in the Algiers Court House hours of operations are Monday through Friday,
8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

Yes.
5. What are the requirements for registering?
Be a United States citizen.
Be 17 years of age or older.
Not be under an order of imprisonment for conviction of a felony.
Not be under a judgment of full interdiction or limited interdiction where your right to vote has been suspended.
Reside in the state and parish in which you seek to register and vote.
6. How much does it cost to register?
There is no charge for registering.
7. What do I need to bring with me to register to vote?
You need to bring a Signature ID and Proof of residency.
8. How do I update the information on my Voter Registration Application?
You must place your request in writing, sign, and date. Mail, fax, or bring in person the signed request to the
Registrar of Voters office.
9. If I want to vote in the next election, what is the last day I can register to vote?
You must register 30 days BEFORE any scheduled election.
10. How do I get another Voter ID card?
You can call or visit the Registrar of Voters office.
11. What is my Ward and Precinct?
Your voting address determines your Ward and Precinct.You can call the Registrar’s office or go to the Secretary
of State’s website at www.sos.louisiana.gov,under the poll locator to find your Ward and Precinct.
12. Where do I go to vote?
You may vote at any one of the two Registrar of Voters offices during Early Voting. On Election Day, you
vote at your polling location.
13. What do I need to bring with me when I go to the polls to vote?
A picture ID.
14. Can I vote by mail?
Yes, only if you are not going to be in the parish during early voting or on Election Day.
15. What do I need to do in order to vote by mail?
You can submit a written signed request to the Registrar of Voters.
16. Can I vote if I am in the penitentiary?
Yes, only if you are not convicted.
17. Can I vote if I have satisfied my incarceration period?
Yes, ONLY after providing proof to the Registrar of Voters that you have satisfied and completed your sentence.

Submit a physician’s letter to the Registrar of Voters describing illness.

19 When can I request a Ballot?
You may request a Ballot sixty days before an election.
20. What is the difference between absentee voting and early voting?
Voting absentee,is when you are outside of the parish, and want to vote by mail. Early voting means you cast
your vote two weeks before an election.
21. How do I vote absentee?
Submit a written signed request to the Registrar of Voters office.
22. Can I vote by FAX?
Yes, however you must sign a release form waiving your right to a secret ballot.

Early voting takes place two weeks before an election.
25. Where do I go to vote early?
You can vote early at any one of the two Registrar of Voters offices.
26. Can I vote if my name appears on the Inactive Voters’ List published in the newspaper?
Yes.
27. How do I get my name removed from the Inactive Voters’ List?
Send a written, signed, and dated documentation with your name, date of birth, previous home address, and
current home address to the Registrar of Voters or you may fill out an address confirmation document at the
polls.
28. Is there a system in place for the visually impaired to vote?
Yes.
29. Is there a system in place for the hearing impaired to vote?
No.
30. Are polling places handicap accessible?
Most of them yes.
31. Do you provide voting machines to Nursing Homes/Living Centers if residents are unable to travel
to the polls?
No. Upon request, specialists from the Registrar of Voters office bring ballots to nursing homes/living centers.
