Housing Highlights

On August 10, DHND took the lead at a press conference to announce the beginning of a new initiative—the “Lead Safe House”.  Alberta Pate, Executive Assistant DHND, made a statement to the assembled media and residents why the property at 1909 Foucher Street will function as a vital part of DHND’s overall lead remediation efforts.  Ms. Pate was joined by District B Councilperson Renee Gill Pratt, Dr. Kevin Stephens, Director of the City’s Health Department, Toni Wendel, Olde World Builders and Remodelers, LLC, Mr. Anthony Faciane, Deputy Executive Assistant for Housing, Ellen Lee, Deputy Executive Assistant Neighborhood Development, and Adrianne Rochon,  Planning and Resource Development Bureau Chief.

The “Lead Safe House” project is funded by a $100,000 grant from the US Conference of Mayors—Cities United for Scientific Progress Program.  The grant is funding the complete renovation of the Central City residence.  Once completed, the house will used as a temporary residence for families whose homes are undergoing lead remediation in conjunction with DHND’s NO Lead Program.  Participants in this program have been identified as having children under six years of age with elevated blood lead levels.  Relocation is necessary for these families to safeguard their health while lead hazards are removed from their homes.
