What is the New Orleans Health Department's Mobile Dental Program?

Pre-Katrina, the Mobile Dental Program provided comprehensive dental services, health education, and nutrition counseling for older adults. Dental services are provided on a mobile van that visited nutrition centers on a regular basis. This mobile dental van was a state of the art facility equipped with digital x-ray, intra-oral cameras, and patient videos and DVD Player and television, and a wheelchair lift making it completely accessible to persons with physical disabilities. The program is partially funded by the New Orleans Council on Aging.

Since Katrina, the N.O. Council on Aging has provided a temporary clinic with two dental chairs and an x-ray unit to service senior citizens of Orleans Parish returning after Katrina. Dental services can be obtained at the Central City Senior Center located at 2101 Philip Street on the 2nd Floor.
