Climate Protection

Our climate is threatened by toxic emissions from vehicles, industry, electricity production, and even landfills. Warming temperatures create serious problems for southern Louisiana by increasing sea levels and providing an environment where life-threatening bacteria can grow and thrive. There is so much we can do to reverse this trend. The City is making public buildings 10% more energy efficient, replacing street and traffic lights with energy efficient lights, facilitating alternative transportation options, and working to enhance its recycling program. Individuals can create fewer emissions by cutting down on electricity usage, sharing rides or taking public transportation, and recycling and composting their waste.
