Brownfields Program

BrownfieldsBrownfields are industrial or commercial properties that are abandoned or underused. Redevelopment of these sites is complicated due to real or perceived environmental contamination. Reveloping brownfields can provide solutions to a number of urban problems by reducing blight, increasing property values, creating jobs, and bringing business and tax dollars into the City. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have provided tools that allow us to access and clean up Brownfields, making them more attractive for redevelopment.

The Mayor's Office of Environmental Affairs maintains a database of potential brownfield sites, and is able to provide assistance in the redevelopment of those properties.

The New Orleans' Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Load Fund (BCRLF), managed by BankOne Louisiana, provides low interest loans to clean up contaminated property. Please contact OEA for more information.
