On The Road In An Evacuation

On The Road In An Evacuation

If you plan to stay in a hotel or motel, make reservations and confirm your reservations before you leave.

Learn the places to stay between your home and your destination in case you have to stop.

Highways will be crowded. Expect your trip to take longer than usual. Watch for Louisiana Department of Transportation highway signs for information. Monitor the situation on your car radio.

When a hurricane threatens, don’t make traffic worse. Get your extra vehicles out early. If you wait to leave until local officials call for a mandatory evacuation, take only one vehicle.

Once the mandatory evacuation is ordered, contra-flow will take effect. Study the contra-flow map in advance so you will know which lanes to use to get to your desired destination.

Be smart. If you want to travel with a boat, camper, or an extra car or truck – leave the evacuation zone BEFORE local officials order a mandatory evacuation.
