Ceeon Quiett

Director of Communications

Ceeon Quiett was appointed Director of Communications by Mayor C. Ray Nagin in August 2006. In this position, Quiett is responsible for all media and public relations programming, community affairs initiatives and marketing for the Office of the Mayor and all agencies within New Orleans city government.

Quiett's range of professional experiences over the past 15 years has enhanced the knowledge and skills that under gird her versatility as a communications professional.

Prior to joining Mayor Nagin’s staff, she was Communications Director for the Office of the Mayor and the City of Detroit- a position Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick appointed her to in April 2004. She served as the Mayor's advisor, cabinet member and manager of strategic communications.  

For nearly seven years, Quiett worked in the newspaper industry as a Market Development Manager and a Sales & Marketing Manager for Gannett Co., a leading newspaper company. Her responsibilities included managing the Circulation Sales Department, strategically and successfully executing sales and marketing plans, overseeing the development of special sections of the newspaper, ad development, and community affairs. Quiett also served on the Editorial Board of the newspaper. During this time, she was also a member of Leadership Montgomery and a Board Member of the Red Cross.

While working for Gannett, she served as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Communications for Alabama State University. During this time, she participated in a recently published communications research study and founded the local chapter of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America).

Quiett has worked as a Senior Publicist for Black Entertainment Television in Washington (D.C.); as Senior Account Group Manager, Shienken Sherman (CO) where her principal client was Teledyne Water Pik; and she has served as a strategic communications consultant for Montgomery Community Action Agency, Diversified Developers, and The Carol Williams Agency (IL).

Quiett received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Howard University (1991); Master’s Degree in Communications from the University of Maryland, College Park (1996); and Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) (1999). She is a trained and certified organizational development facilitator/trainer. She was a Congressional fellow in 1990.
