Mayor Nagin delivered his annual progress report to the City on May 28, 2008, with the River as his backdrop. His fourth annual State of the City Address was held at the Port of New Orleans Cruise Terminal. Mayor Nagin reminded us just how far we’ve come since August 2005, and said:
“We are here, close to the Mississippi, in order to be reminded of where we have come from, to be reminded of the can-do spirit that’s in our genes.
The river contains much of our past, present, and future.
Like the river, we have come a long way.
Ladies and Gentleman, we are Reinventing Ourselves in Recovery.”
