Robert Mendoza

Director of Public Works

Robert Mendoza is the Director of Public Works for the City of New Orleans. He has been married to his wife Stacy for nine years. Like many in New Orleans, his home was severely damaged by the Katrina flood waters, and he currently resides in the Warehouse District, a few blocks from the historic French Quarter. His philosophy is to be proactive rather than reactive, explore all options, and have the fortitude to stay disciplined.

Robert Mendoza is a graduate in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to his current position, he worked for a local roadway general contractor, Barriere Construction Company, where he was a senior project manager. While working for Barriere, he had the privilege of managing the construction of several City and State projects, which included replacing all utilities, roadway base and pavements of all kinds.

He developed a reputation of being straightforward and trustworthy by routinely finishing projects within the owner’s budget, and trying always to address construction issues ahead of time so that win-win solutions could be found.

Prior to his work with Barriere, he worked for the City of New Orleans overseeing the street lighting system construction and maintenance. During his work with street lighting, he successfully revised the complaint driven maintenance system into a proactive preventative maintenance program that both reduced the overall annual costs and achieved world-class efficiency ratings.
