Finding Contractors & Non Profits
The most difficult part of making repairs can be finding the right person to do it. This page offers suggestions for finding reliable contractors and non profits.
Contractors
One of the best ways to find a contractor is to ask your neighbors or your neighborhood organization for recommendations.
Another option is use contractors who are licensed and monitored by the State’s Licensing Board of Contractors. To find these contractors, go to the
SLBC’s website: www.lslbc.louisiana.gov
Once you get there, click on the “Find a Contractor” icon.
To search for local contractors, click on “Search by City/Town of Contractor”.
To find a contractor who specializes in a particular field, click on “Search by Type of Contractor.” After that, click on “Home Improvement” for small jobs, or click on “Commercial” to search by the type of work, such as roofing.
You can also find contractors through the Better Business Bureau. You can visit their website, www.neworleans.bbb.org. Click on “List of Members” and click on Contractors.
Once you choose a contractor, you can click on “Company Reports” to see if any complaints have been filed against them.

Assistance from Non Profits
There are several non profits that are assisting elderly, low income and disabled residents with home repairs. The amount of assistance they can offer depends on their resources at the time.
