Cliff Washington, Jr.
Director of Operations

Cliff Washington, Jr. has been the Director of Operations for New Orleans EMS since Hurricane Katrina. His responsibilities include management of the day to day operations of EMS, ensuring adequate staffing levels and ambulance coverage for Orleans Parish, and handling compliments as well as complaints from patients receiving care from New Orleans EMS.

Mr. Washington has been working in the Emergency Medical Services field for more than 30 years. He began his career in August of 1980. He was one of the first paramedics in the City of New Orleans, earning this certification in 1988. Mr. Washington was promoted to supervisor status in October of 1988.

Field supervision is one of Mr. Washington’s strongest attributes serving his role as Director of Operations. He has earned EMT – Basic and his EMT – Intermediate at Louisiana State University Medical Center in 1979 and 1981, respectively. Mr. Washington obtained his EMT – Paramedic at New Orleans Vocational Technical School, currently Delgado Community College. Mr. Washington has worked the 1982 Kenner plane crash, 1987 Papal visit, multiple Presidential and Vice- Presidential visits along with a host of other special events. Mr. Washington is currently working with his fourth EMS administration.

Throughout his longevity with New Orleans EMS, Mr. Washington has served the citizens of New Orleans for more than 29 years. This includes 4 mayors beginning in Ernest Morial’s first term.

While Mr. Washington has been a dedicated civil servant, he still makes time to play with his six grandchildren, who live around the country.
