Cannizzaro, Jr. District Attorney of New Orleans ~ State of Louisiana 1340 Poydras St. Suite 700 NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA 70112 (504) 522-2414 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 22, 2009 Truvia Sentenced to Life in Prison (New Orleans) - Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon A. Cannizzaro, Jr. announced that Gregory Truvia was sentenced to life in prison this afternoon for the second-degree murder of his mother, 69-year-old Artherine Williams. In April 2007, Williams was found dead inside of Truvia’s FEMA trailer as a result of blunt trauma to her head and excessive blood loss. At trial last December, the defendant claimed that he was not guilty by reason of insanity, but the jury rejected that defense and returned a guilty verdict.
