(New Orleans, LA) The Chief Administration Office today announced that Greg Meffert, the City’s Chief Information Officer offered a letter of resignation on Friday, July 14, 2006.
"We sincerely regret the loss of Greg Meffert to this administration and are now challenged with the task of recruiting a qualified individual to fill his shoes as we continue to rebuild our City," said Mayor C. Ray Nagin. “Greg has been instrumental in our recovery and revitalization efforts and will truly be missed. We really appreciate his dedication, loyalty and contributions that he has given to the City of New Orleans, and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Greg Meffert, 38, founded and served for 10 years as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of ITS Inc. NetEx, Inc. and Chief Technology Officer for Ilumin, Inc. Meffert has founded and helped grow various successful technology companies. His New Orleans-based Internet companies have secured more than $50,000,000 in venture capital investments.
Meffert has served the City of New Orleans for the past four years as the Chief Technology Officer where he created an environment for technology from scratch under the Nagin Administration. He was extremely instrumental during the City’s recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina developing detailed crisis management communications and streamlining the permits process. During Meffert’s tenure, the City of New Orleans received the 2005 ‘Best of Web’ award for the best city government website in the nation.
“This is a very positive thing and was a purely personal decision for me to re-enter the private sector. It has been an intense and challenging position, but also immensely rewarding four years. I have accomplished all the goals set out on that first day and beyond from Mayor Nagin,” said Meffert.
“Greg is an outstanding and talented individual that has proven his commitment to the citizens of New Orleans. We will always be grateful for all that he has contributed to this administration. He will be greatly missed,” said Dr. Brenda Hatfield, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of New Orleans.
“I have enjoyed working with everyone, and will continue to stay close and support the City and this administration in anyway that I can.”
Mayor C. Ray Nagin also announced the appointment of Mark Kurt as the Chief Technology Officer effective immediately.
