SUSPENSION OF RECYCLING DROP-OFF EVENTS FOR 2009 The City of New Orleans has discontinued all Recycling Drop-Off Events for 2009. The Recycling Foundation of Baton Rouge that sponsored the previous events can no longer provide the monthly service free of charge.  The downturn in the economy has impacted the market for recyclable materials.  The reduction in the demand for used paper, plastic bottles, glass and metal cans has prompted prices to drop sharply causing a back-log of recyclable materials at the processing plants.  Due to the City of New Orleans’ budget constraints in 2009, the City has no funds to provide the service in 2009. The City of New Orleans would like to thank the Recycling Foundation of Baton Rouge for their support and for sponsoring past Recycling Drop-Off Events in our City. The Recycling Foundation sponsored over 15 events in 2007 and 2008, and collected over 160 tons of recyclable materials. Also, the City would like thank the many volunteers who helped the events in 2007 and 2008.
