New Orleans Adolescent Hospital Child & Youth Inpatient Services

The New Orleans Adolescent Hospital (NOAH) and Community Services provides a fully integrated hospital and community based mental health services for children and adolescents, with serious emotional and behavioral problems, residing in Louisiana, primarily in the Office of Mental Health’s Area A and statewide as needed. NOAH currently operates 14 inpatient beds for children and adolescents. The services provided include various therapies: milieu, psychotherapy, psychosocial skills groups, health education, medication management, family education, activity therapy and academics.

Special School District
School services are provided on campus by a joint venture between the Office of Mental Health (OMH) and the department of Education to provide on-site education for grades K-12. The program is directed by a school principal that administers the on-site program and coordinates the daily operations.
 
Transitional Program
New Orleans Adolescent Hospital and Community Services operates a transitional program that services as a transition for inpatients. Patients that meet criteria are discharged from the children’s inpatient program and return to the unit on a daily basis for continued treatment. The program operates Monday-Friday, 8:00am-3: 30pm. It’s goal is to move children off the children’s unit as quickly as clinically possible.

New Orleans Adolescent Hospital Adult Acute Services

The NOAH Acute Psychiatric Unit admits individuals who are experiencing psychiatric emergencies/crises and are in need of stabilization. This 20 bed unit admits male and female adult patients (18 years of age or older). The unit and is designed to provide for a brief stay, typically under 14 days. Patients are generally referred to the unit through the Single Point of Entry (SPOE) system. Contact with the SPOE system can be made by calling 504-599-0247. In addition to psychiatric and medical services, patients are provided counseling and other treatment activities in individual and group settings.

Hours of Operation: 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday

Description of Services: Comprehensive child and adolescent emotional and behavioral health services for ages 6 to 17 years and 6months. The Algiers Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Service is part of the system of care of New Orleans Adolescent Hospital. The site is able to provide psychiatric evaluations, psychosocial assessments, child/adolescent psychopharmacology, system of care coordination; family, individual group and play therapies. There are two child psychiatrists on service. Walk-ins are welcome; but scheduled appointments are preferred. Urgent care crisis management is available and as well as coordination with adult mental health services at this location.

It is noted that the Algiers Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Services is part of the Algiers-Fisher Clinic and collaborates with all internal medicine, pediatric, ophthalmologic, and renal clinics on site.

The Central City Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinic at NOAH,also known as Central City at NOAH, provides comprehensive child and adolescent emotional and behavioral health services for ages 6 to 17 years and six months. Central City at NOAH offers psychiatric evaluations, psychosocial assessments, psychopharmacology, consultations, system of care coordination; and family, individual, group and play therapies. Urgent care cases can be managed at this site as well. Walk-ins are welcome; but scheduled appointments are preferred.
