Medical Recovery Week a Success for the Second Year in a Row!
The City of New Orleans would like to extend its gratitude to the professionals and staff who volunteered their services at Medical Recovery Week in January 28 through February 3 at Operation Blessing in New Orleans East. The crisis of access to medical care continues 16 months after Katrina. Many of these volunteers participated at last year’s event at the Audubon Zoo where over 5000 patients were seen with 27 transfers to the hospital one of which was a code save!
During this somewhat smaller event, 12,125 medical, dental and optical services were provided for 3839 citizens in need. Information regarding mental health services and mammography, giveaways from local health promotion programs and provision of medical information packets for emergency preparedness and HIV testing were featured services. There were 21 transfers to the hospital. Over 871volunteers from New Orleans and all over the country participated.
Follow-up care will be provided at Operation Blessing local physicians’ offices and community health centers.
