Welcome to the Mayor's Office of Environmental Affairs

The Mayor's Office of Environmental Affairs was established in 1994 to enhance and protect the New Orleans environment for current and future generations. The Office seeks to improve quality of life by promoting economic development that benefits the environment and all of our citizens.
Our activities include:
  • Public Education: Earth Day Celebration, Mayor's Environmental Breakfast, Monthly E-Mail Updates, and participation in various conferences, festivals and events.
  • Community Involvement: Working with citizens and neighborhood organizations to resolve environmental issues and promote positive change.
  • Policy Development: Drafting ordinances, participating on task forces, introducing legislation, and collaborating with local, state and federal agencies.
  • Broad-Based Initiatives: Brownfields Redevelopment, Climate Protection, Coastal/Wetlands Preservation, Environmental Justice, American Heritage River.
