AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES

Welcome to New Orleans

New Orleans is striving to make all City programs, services and facilities accessible to all persons, especially
those with disabilities. Under the American with Disabilities Act, the City is adamant about the law. New Orleans
imposes the highest illegal parking fine in the nation for persons who do not respect the H or ‘Blue” zones within the
City limits. The fine is $500.00 for parking illegally without appropriate credentials in these zones. New Orleans
is serious about the ADA. Improvements to streets, passageways, curb cuts, signage and transportation remain a
principle focus of our rebuilding efforts. Just as we seek to improve physical accessibility, the city is striving to
improve communications, equal access to employment and accommodations in all public meetings.

Access is not a goal, it is the law.
